The investment made during 2024 by the La Mancha-based company establishes it as a benchmark for wineries that are committed to technology and innovation in the production of their wines.
January 15, 2025. – Agrovin Group, a company specialized in oenological solutions and applications, invested more than 900,000 euros in the development of R&D projects in 2024. In this way, the company has continued to strengthen one of its key objectives since its founding in 1957: to contribute to the evolution of the winemaking sector at regional, national, and international level.
The bulk of the investment has been dedicated to the incorporation of new technological advances in its laboratory, which occupies more than 600 m2 in its facilities in Alcázar de San Juan, and is considered the largest private oenological laboratory in Spain dedicated to technical consultancy and R&D. It performs more than 35,000 analyses per year and more than 60 different analyses per day, thanks to its exclusive technological equipment capable of offering a wide variety of microbiological and chemical determinations.
From this laboratory, a highly qualified technical team with extensive experience in the winemaking sector works every day to complete and improve the company’s range of products and technological solutions, offering in parallel consulting services for its customers, and working hand-in-hand with leading research centers and universities in the winemaking sector. As a result, Agrovin has accumulated 37 completed research projects, and obtained 38 patents.
One of the most recent fruits of this work is the SMARTWINERY project, carried out under the umbrella of the European Commission’s I3 call, in collaboration with the University of Murcia, the Wine Technology Platform, and the Greek company Neuropublic. SMARTWINERY is an ambitious initiative designed to boost the competitiveness of small and medium-sized wineries through smart, efficient, and sustainable wine production technologies. With the development of SMARTWINERY, it will be possible to double processing capacity, reduce energy consumption by 35%, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25%, compared to traditional methods.
All these factors have been decisive for Agrovin to end the year receiving the PTV Innovation 2024 Award in the category of R&D Management, and a finalist in the category of Individual R&D Project for its ACTIVEBARREL project, a new tool for monitoring and tracking wine in barrels. Both awards have been received with enthusiasm within the La Mancha-based company, which reaffirms its intention to continue to assume its leadership role in the evolution and innovation of the wine sector.
